New Build... Watkinsville, GA.

If its not rocks its ground water or something else. Lots of setbacks can be had when digging. Never know for sure until you're knee deep. Sorry you found unwanted buried treasure.

When digging mine we thankfully missed the ground water and found and old abandoned dry well instead. That was an easy cave in for the excavator.

Pool was mostly backfilled today. Only a few more loads of rock to get out of here. Inspection of grounding line on Monday and pool coping going in next week, probably Thursday. Natural gas heater ordered and being delivered next week and test kit ordered today. Only a few more weeks and we are swimming in salty bliss. Ready for this to be over and for us to be enjoying the pool.

Bet he is even more tired of rock than you are! NOT fun but needs to be done!

I am certain he's ready to be done with this...and rightly so. But, so far, he's been excellent to work with and still isn't nickel and diming me over everything. We are both in the hole money wise, but he's still working hard to get it done and I have confidence it'll be done right. Not happy with the situation, but I am happy I didn't pick another pool builder. Hoping it stays that way throughout the build and beyond.

Welcome to pool ownership! We built one last year, and it's one of the best things we've ever done. We just celebrated a year with ours. We swam all 12 months - Georgia weather and a gas heater made it easy.

Who is your builder?

America's Swimming Pool in Watkinsville. They used to be Sweetwater Pools over on Epps Bridge Rd. Great guy and really easy to work with. If you ever need repairs, maintenance or renovations, I say give him a shot at the job.

Well, moving along. Bonding inspection in the morning, final grading tomorrow afternoon, and coping and equipment pad supposed to be poured on Thursday. Labor Day weekend swimming is looking more and more possible. Just hope we get very little rain this month.

pool heater arrived today, and TFT Test Kit arrived over the weekend, as did the Dolphin S300 pool robot. I'm getting there. It's hot here....reaching 95-97 most days this week. I'd love to have a pool to jump in. Hopefully, summer runs long and we have hot weather into October here this year. I want us to be able to swim as much as possible when this thing's finished.

This is the view from our back deck. He has worked his butt off getting enough dirt in here and getting the rock out to end up with the proper slope on all sides. It’s going to end up looking great. The last of the rock left today and he may end up bringing another load or two of dirt in after final grading tomorrow. Pool coping has been pushed back to first thing next week and the deck will be poured the following day. He said after the coping Is in, if the deck gets delayed by a day or two, he can pull in his guys to put in Vermiculite and liner before the pool deck is finished. He’s rushing along and I am certain, without really bad weather, we will be swimming in under two weeks. It’s just all this rock that’s slowed us down. But he’s getting it done and is a great guy to work with. At this point, I’m really happy with the Pan we hired. If we built another, he may be the only one I’d call.

Coping was poured today and looks great. Rest of deck is being formed tomorrow and poured on Friday. Liner going in either later this week or early next week. Moving along. Should be swimming by next weekend!

Coping has set and is an awesome share of gray. Light color, so not too hot and will contrast with the regular concrete pool deck around it. Very happy with the way things are tying together. I think it’s going to look really nice. Deck was formed today, being poured on Friday. PB is trenching and setting equipment tomorrow. Liner being added on Saturday. Fence going in next Monday and gas line being run middle of next week. Almost there!

It is worth it as your PB will only be doing once a week chemical work. It is good to know what you are starting with so you can have the chemicals on hand to tweak your levels after they leave. Once a week chemical work tends to "bomb" the pool hard in hopes the chemicals last until they come back in a week. It is VERY important to keep the pH and TA balanced in a vinyl pool.

I am going to share a set of links I put together for new pool owners. This should be your guide to caring for your pool:
