Wow, very nice. How often to you have to fill your Stenner tank? Any thought of going to a SWG?

I'm guessing about every 10 days or so during summer months. (30 gal tank)

I'm avoiding SWG for corrosion concerns - lots of metal around pool...

I really like the sunken pit and cover! I really wanted to do something similar but couldn't figure out how to do it without taking up the rest of the yard. Looks great!

So I think the water is finally starting to stabilize.
It's been a lot of work brushing and adding bleach, acid, calcium, baking soda and CYA the past 18 days.

Here are today's test results:
CYA: 40
FC: 5
CH: 275
TA: 110
PH: 7.5

Question: I have the boric acid in the garage - ready to broadcast into pool. Should I wait another week or two before throwing borate in so the pool can maintain stable longer?

(For the curious: acid wash was 34 gallons, 8 bottles of start-up tech at fill, 48 gallons of 10% bleach, 9 gallons of muriatic, 40 lbs of baking soda, 150 lbs of calcium, & 34 lbs of CYA for 1st 18 days... I can't wait to get the Stenner pumps fired up so I can stop lugging bottles.)

How stable is your pH? At first thought your TA is a bit high & it will be harder to lower after adding the borates, but if the pH is very solid and stable it should not be a big concern.

I understand your concerns, and rightfully so. Just keep in mind that all chlorine pools contain salt, added with bleach, muriatic acid & body sweat. Eventually your salt level will be approaching SWG territory. Mine was at 1200ppm after two full seasons (when I switched to a SWG). Another 2-1/2 seasons and I estimate I would have been right around the required level for my current SWG anyway.

Another example of salt buildup in non-swg pools: I run a high FC demand trade bleach only pool and after years and years I'm at 2900 salt which would be higher except that we get tons of rain/overflow and lots of splash out refilled with low to no salt water. I can live with 2900, but if I couldn't I'd do a partial drain/refill.

I think one of the unrealized benefits of a SWG pool is a salt level that no longer rises, but the convenience is really the best part.

No - not yet. I'm working on it on the weekends now to wrap up the peripheral construction. It will probably be a couple months of weekends before it is done.

So... exciting news. We thought we went too small on the pool and have made the executive decision to expand it - by about 40 square miles. [emoji53]

We might be flooded for the next 3-6 weeks until they release enough water from the reservoir for our house to get dry again. #doh!
