Re: New build in MS

That back yard is just begging for a pool!

Re: New build in MS

Your going to need a slide for that pool for the kids too. I promise you since you have a slide in the yard (me too), the FIRST thing they are going to ask when they see a real pool is "dad, where's the slide at?"

Please keep the pictures coming. Many of us who already have pools love to see what others are doing and it's a wonderful reference for new folks to see what is possible. And yes, I can't tell you how many little things I have added around our pool thanks to seeing what folks have done and posted their finished projects.

Good luck on the project.

Re: New build in MS

Thanks for the comments and I will definitely post more pictures as we progress. Had over an inch of rain yesterday so it will be later this week or next before the equipment comes in. And to answer msumoose we're in Madison MS.

Some details about the pool. 16x12x32 6ft deep kidney shaped inground vinyl liner pool. Our city doesn't allow anything but cartridge systems to avoid neighbors getting mad at each other for backwash water going into other yards.

Re: New build in MS

We started construction this morning! Took a lot of pictures and if it's too many just let me know and I'll post less next time.

The long awaited truck and backhoe arrives:

Scraping off all the grass:

The final layout, lost 8 inches of pool deck because of a picky inspector and not knowing exact property lines. Builder is making it up on other parts/areas on the deck though:

Starting the digging. Was weird seeing a dump truck in my backyard:

Re: New build in MS

Crew started early this morning setting the walls. Will post more as they claim the liner will be set and start filling later today.

The pad with the filter set as well. Kind of funny that the gauge says "clean" and "Dirty"

Re: New build in MS

What made you decide to go with wood over steel or polymer walls?

Pool looks good and I like the liner. Keep posting pics!

Re: New build in MS

We chose wood because we liked the builder the best out of all the ones we talked to. They've used steel in the past and didn't have good results with it in our area and would have used plastic but the wood was cheaper and had a better warranty. The walls and pool kit itself has a 30 year parts and labor warranty compared to 20 year parts only with the plastic walls.

Here's some more activity from today:

The water was cold but my daughter had to try out the steps:

Backfilled and grading:

We should start the stone coping and electrical work on Monday with final grading and concrete apron pour on Wednesday if weather cooperates.

Lookin' Good!!

I can't figure out the purpose of the 6-8" diameter blue pipes that were vertical around the perimeter but appear to have been covered up?

They are set down in the concrete footings and when they pour the concrete apron/deck they'll fill those pipes with concrete as well to act as deck supports.

With the amount of rainfall you get are none of them a sump to drain away water from the outside of the pool?
Are they going to remove any dirt between the pool and your patio to allow slope drainage between pool and patio?

Re: New build in MS *new pictures 3/16***

They aren't acting as a sump at all as they're set in concrete at the bottom of the pipe. There will be a 2'x4" deck drain along the patio and house that discharges on the side of the property to keep water away from the pool and patio. The grading in the pictures is a rough grade and not final because they still have to remove some to make room for 4 inches of concrete everywhere as well.

Re: New build in MS *new pictures 3/18***

Well things took a turn in the wrong direction over the weekend. I noticed water seeping in around the pool Friday afternoon especially after cutting in the stairs and the builder kept saying it was normal. Well we lost over an inch of water during Saturday and the ground around the pool was soaking wet and caving in on itself. They came out and had to drain the pool and replace the gasket around the main drains. We're now refilling the pool in the middle of a hail storm!

They got the liner stretched back out and put back without any seams and claim all is fixed now.

Re: New build in MS *new pictures 3/16***

I think it's half or 3/4 but can't remember off the top of my head. The pool is filled again and workers are reworking the dirt and cutting in the lights, skimmers and such today with stone and electrical slated for later this week.....fingers crossed the rain stays away.
