New Build - Damascus, MD

It is mortared and looks great. We got an unexpected surprise as well the waterfall guy is going to build the waterfall today! The PB had said it might be another 2 weeks before he was available but I guess he had a cancellation or something. That means after today we are only waiting on decking and then it's plaster/fill! We might get water in within 1st week of September.

Man they were working HARD to get it cut, set, AND mortared! WOW! When they grout it?

LOVE the fact the waterfall guy is there working! SWEET! Do you love it so far? How neat to be a bump!

There was a miscomunication between my PB and the Waterfall dude. He wasn't planning on doing it but they will come back Friday and do it. Also they already grouted I was surprised since I have done a lot of tile and usually wait a day to grout. I went over the tile and it looks really good. All very even.

Check out my sig line I have new pics of the finished coping and tile. We are SO happy with the sheer descent using the bluestone. They were supposed to put the same waterline tile on that area but when the guy looked at it he said it would be much better with the bluestone and they had enough to do it. No extra charge.

I love it when someone has an idea like the bluestone! That is purrfect! They pretty water line tile might have been too much on the wall. Doing it this way lets the pretty tile really shine!

Boooo-hisssssss on no waterfall today but.........it is what it is and hopefully he will get there bright and early tomorrow to get done! Any idea how many days work it is?

It is small 3'x5' so I think just a day. Also they did not have the accent tiles for the steps and said the plaster crew would do that.

Thanks - Check out my sig pics again, they finished the waterfall today! Looks great! I am uploading my timelapse movies as well.

The deck guy showed up today to do a preview of the job. He said he wasn't sure anyone would be home but wanted to take a look and get some ideas. He's been in the business for 40 years and worked for all of the builders. He also said our pool was better than most that he sees he actually really liked it. We talked with him for around an hour and got a LOT of ideas about what to do. We only paid for 3 feet of concrete around the pool. Obviously we need more than that. He said to go to 4 feet would be roughly $1000 more. But in looking at the design, he was saying not to put any concrete deck behind the sheer water fall or the rock waterfall. So essentially go 4 feet passed the love/dive seat and stop there. Then pick it up again on the house side of the rock waterfall and take that out around 12 feet.

He's going to come out Monday and start the grading and then draw his ideas on the ground but I am liking what he is proposing so far. Skipping decking around the back side leaves more for the front so we aren't paying as much more for the extra. His idea was the same as ours in that area to put tall ornamental grasses and the like. So we hopefully will have a deck next week! PB still has not hooked up either waterfall so they need to do that asap. He said he could work around the hookup if they don't get it done though. We also specified the carving in the concrete where it looks like stone but that never got translated to him.

Well more joy today! I just talked with the deck guy and gave him a check for $5k. Turns out 3 feet of concrete can't even be seen with the naked eye. Sigh..... Does it ever end?

Yep! With a CANNON ball as soon as your pool is full! It will be a little bumpy getting there but..........it will all be worth it!

They did make a couple of mistakes in the decking price. We'll be getting back a little over $1k. So there's that!

The pool is looking great. When is plaster scheduled?

It isn't scheduled yet but they say usually within a day or 2 of the deck. Hopefully early next week.

They ran out of concrete too they just ordered another 3 yards should be here shortly.

Bigger than they thought? How is it looking so far?

Kim:kim:

Check out my pics it is almost done. He said he always orders just shy and makes the 2nd order when he knows how much more to get. He ordered 2 1/2 yards extra. He added that entire deck part behind the sheer descent today (rock waterfall to love seat - ~75 sq feet) and didn't charge any extra at all for it.

2nd batch was VERY wet. It has just now gotten dry enough for them to work it. Almost done! Couple hours left. We can walk on it tomorrow.

He uses this aluminum deck channel/drain that you see in the pics (white lines) instead of cutting the concrete for relief. Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it the normal thing to use now as I was expecting him to make cuts?

OH! That looks nice! Are they going to score the pattern in over it all? I sure hope so! That will help with the cracking as well as it may follow the lines. I don't know much about the channels. I will keep any eye out and learn with you!

That's called "stone marking" and it is only a $1 extra per sq foot. They did it on the entire deck (see album in sig for updated pics). They are literally just a scratch so I don't think they will effect the concrete cracking. Those white lines are supposed to do that. As good as it looks now when it is dry it will be mostly all white and not nearly as dramatic as it is when the concrete is still wet! :(
