Hello, about 3 weeks ago I set up my pool. It is an Intex 20'x48" vinyl pool. I am having trouble balancing my chemicals and knowing exactly how to run my pump. I am going to post my pictures from the strips I used. I am going to buy a test kit as soon as I can. From the test strips it looks like my chlorine is non existent and ph is high. I took my water to a pool store and all my numbers were way off. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there. Im brand new as well so not much advice, but I'd suggest posting the pool store results as they are likely more accurate than the test strips. People will advise from there.

I understand trying to balance the chemicals, but until you are able to get a proper test kit, I'm not sure it will be possible unless you keep going to the pool store for results.

Edit: get a decent test kit. You can do a search but I bought the tf100. It's overwhelming expensive ($80+ shipped) but I do believe it's necessary and I do not regret purchasing it.

You can always just but the refill kit for the TF-100 -- it's $40 I believe. Put it in your own box.

Guess strips and pool store testing won't cut it. We don't trust either one. I suggest adding 5 ppm chlorine to your pool every day while you wait for your test kit to come, and read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry then browse Pool School to get a handle on what TFP is all about.

And welcome to TFP!

Chris,

Welcome to TFP and congrats on the new pool!

It's very difficult to tell you any advice based on test strips. I tried and tested them against my kit several times. Never have been able to register any CYA at all even after I actually had 50 ppm. So our advice could actually make things worse and cause you to have to dump water. How long before your test kit gets there?

Chris
