Just took over this pool and have the below will it work if I just plug it in whilst it’s in its 4 hrs daily pump cycle, will the dirt end up in the strainer or Hayward filter? Can I catch it before the Hayward filter

I have a Kreepy Krawler vacuum that very similar to yours and it works well with the vacuum port in the pool, a valve will control the amount of suction and the speed of the cleaner. Most vac ports I've seen valves are shared with skimmer flow, you may have a similar set up, Post photos if you need to. Dirt and crud with go to your filter, backwash DE filter or clean filter cartridge's when your pressure rises 15-20% , FROM A CLEAN PSI value.

Yes, the small debris will end up in the filter. The larger debris will end up in the pump basket. If you want to catch the larger debris before it enters the plumbing you can use an inline leaf catcher like this

Was the pump running when you took the picture of the gauge?
It is time to backwash/ clean the filter when pressure rises 25% over clean pressure.

1.Hi the pump was running when I took a picture of the gauge
2.Where can I get a leaf Catcher to catch some of the dirt
3. The skimmer do I need to take the basket out or anything or can I just fill the cleaner hose full off water and connect to the edge of my pool as show in one of the pictures
4 how many hours will it take to clean

Your gauge is bad then- you need a new one.
I like these robust glycerin filled ones
Gauges are also available at lowes & possibly Home Depot as well as pool supply stores.

All over the net

You will simply fill the hose with water & connect it to this port

No skimmer involved
4 how many bows will it take to clean
?? Sorry, I don’t understand the question.

Thanks guys
1. Can I leave it connected all the time till clean or only when the pump is running

2. How many hours to complete the clean

3. Will the leaf cleaner collect all the dirt or should I let it get to the filter

3. The new gauge to install is it under pressure and how do I install , the Hayward one had red and green pressure lines

4. Should I install skimmer socks will that help with the dirt

1. Yes, it stays connected unless the pool is in use. You may need to use a flat-blade screwdriver in the slot on the flap to get it open. They lock shut if released suddenly, or there is enough suction at that port, for safety.
2. How big is your pool?
3. Unscrew the old and screw in the new . Some come with thread sealant, some don't and you will need about three wraps of Teflon tape. Most gauges don't have that movable red/green indicator. Doesn't matter, just keep track of the starting "clean" reading.
4. If you want.

To clarify-
1- the cleaner won’t clean anything if the pump isn’t running.
2- depends how dirty it is & how long it takes the cleaner to cover the entire pool. It operates in a random fashion.
3 a - the leaf catcher only collects larger debris (to help prevent a plumbing clog) smaller debris will be caught in your filter.
You should backwash your filter when pressure rises 25% over whatever clean pressure is for you.

Hi all , I was looking to install another Hayward pressure gauge as it tells me when to clean would you know which one would be correct for my filter,

Unless both needles move, I don't like those. Most are set to 10psi which is way too much. We reccomend cleaning at 25% psi rise. At 15 psi for example, that's 18-19 and not 25.

Can you show us the back of the gauge ? If it's threaded on there any standard 1/4 inch NPT gauge would work, but make sure it's back mount and not bottom mount.

Thanks poolman ordered from there, do I need to do anything special to o install other than put some plumbers tape and unscrew and screw in a new one.
That's all that is needed. DO NOT overtighten or the air-relief fitting will crack. The plastic on an older filter is more brittle than when new. Usually doesn't require the use of tools, maybe a 9/16" wrench to loosen enough to unscrew by hand. You can usually hand tighten it. Always try without a tool first. Be sure that there are about three of the threads on the gauge still visible when it is installed and you should be good.

I ordered from the supplier suggested above will be receiving over the next day or so will get some plumbers tape from Lowe’s also and revert back to you all thanks again

Also make sure the bottom footpad isn’t worn down, when they get worn too much the bottom is equal to the surface and the slots on it cannot channel water through it anymore and it will move very slow or get stuck in certain areas of your pool. Also like @Mdragger88 said get a large inline leaf canister for your cleaner.
