So my CYA has gradually dropped and is 50. I am going to add 1 lb of stabilizer to increase it to about 75 per pool math (or should I aim for lower?)

My pH is a little high as usual 8.1. Going to wait and see if it goes down by itself after adding the CYA. How long should I wait to retest the pH and add muriatic acid if necessary?

Also, my CH has always been on the low side. Earlier in the summer I was instructed here not to add anymore CH as the it would probably rise on it’s own over the summer. Well it really hasn’t. Checked today and it was 325. Should I add some CH? What is the benefit of getting it to 450
As pool math suggests is the ideal level?

How long do I need to wait on adding CH after adding CYA?

Thanks in advance .

325 CH is fine. There is no benefit to increasing it further.

CYA is a mild acid and should lower the pH a bit.

What is your TA?

TA had been 70 for ages but was 80
Today.

Incidentally, I have been checking my CYA inside this whole year (mind you in a brightly lit kitchen). Should I hold off on adding the CYA and wait and retest tomorrow outside?

I haven’t tested my salt level in awhile, but the SWCG has been making chlorine just fine. Need to lower the run time or percentage on the cell. Which is better? Shortening the run time or changing the percentage. The FC level is a little too high for my current CYA level.

Probably a good idea before adding.
I had put the sock of stabilizer in the skimmer basket before I read in another post to check the CYA level in sunlight . It’s only been in there for 30 min and hasn’t even started to release. Can I take it out and put in a plastic bag until tomorrow? Or should I just leave in the skimmer basket ?

Take it out and hang it via the sock method.....
In the skimmer can take upto a week to be fully in the water.

EDIT:
Take it out and hold off till you check out via the sun outside

I'd say bring the PH down to lower the CSI. You should be on the area of .0 to -.03
PH is a constant struggle for me. I add acid and to lower to 7.5 and the next day it I is back to 8 or slightly above .

What would you call this :

Not sure how to hang in front of the return without it hitting the side. Instructions say not to let it touch the side of the pool finish.

I would not worry about testing CYA indoor versus outdoor.

It is more important you test it consistently. Always indoor or always outdoor.

I don’t like anything in the skimmer. I prefer the sock hanging in front of a return.

I always have tested indoor and mostly at night when sun is mostly off the pool or down so I have the most accurate FC level. So would you say my CYA test result of 50 inside in my kitchen is mostly accurate or wait until tomorrow when sun is out to retest it?

Hang the sock in front of a return with the pump running. Use a pole or whatever you have to MacGyver it so it doesn't touch the wall and sits a foot away.

Don’t worry about it.

Work your TA down to 60. It will probably be a constant struggle if you fill water TA is high.
With the right combo of TA and pH you can keep the CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range to minimize scaling in the SWG.

Edit your signature to include your test kits.

A brightly lit white wall or object as a background and back away a bit not to cause a shadow sort of like my picture except I used the sky.View attachment 608544
My color for pH is never that light . It is always much darker almost purple. I have tried lowering the TA. Have gotten it to 70, but hard to get to 60. I would need to Lower pH to petty low to get it to 60. Then I aerate. How long to aerate though . Always unsure about that piece . I can lower to 7.0 or 7.2 , but doing nothing the next day my pH is back to 7.9/8 or higher .

How do I edit the signature? I added stuff to the about you section. Is that the signature? I have a link to my pool there too. Not sure if that is the signature and what people can see.
