Long story short, my pool is GREEN! I found out the other day my SWG is DEAD, was a shock to me because I checked it on a whim and is now getting replaced under warranty. But for now I have massive problems, not to mention I neglected it during the winter (I know I'm not that smart). I haven't tested the water in 4 months but the pool is only 9 months old (and the SWG died already)!!! Here's the analysis from the local pool supply and she sold me some shock, some Green to Clean, and Clear Aid. I'm going to do it tomorrow and she said 2 1/2 days then move to the next step. Is there any advice or tips any of you may have that can help me along? This is my first pool that I've owned, I had it built. Thank you in advance

Absolutely! Try to return those pool store products or get store credit. They won't help. To kill and remove algae, you need to follow the SLAM Process. To perform a SLAM Process, you need to maintain the proper elevated chlorine level (based on your current CYA) as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. To do all this accurately, you need a proper test kit - either a TF-100 (link in my signature) or a Taylor K-2006C. That's a must.

So in a nutshell .... a proper test kit, a steady source of liquid chlorine to maintain the proper elevated FC level, and patience to follow the SLAM Process page. You may have a short learning curve, but it works and we can walk you through it .... with proper testing. Best advice .... stay out fo the pool store. Too much $$$$ and bad advice. :)

Welcome to TFP!

As you can see by my name, I was in the same place last year, as you. Listen to @Texas Splash. You will save $100s.

Just buy the kit below, you will need the salt part for your SWG, and the Smart Stir really helps taking the error out of testing and makes it fun (TF-Pro *Salt with SmartStir-for pools with SWG)

I'd also recommend downloading PoolMath. It helps guide you with what to add and when, tracks the state of your pool and your chemical additions. If you also set it up to share here, we can see your results (hover over my name and you will see blue button that shows my logs).

While you are waiting, can you fill out your signature like mine below? Will REALLY help us help you.
