Need help

I’m just not sure which valve should be open and close for daily use. So backwash valve should be closed at all times, main drain open and skimmers drain open at all times? Is this correct.. I have two over valves not sure what they are for...
Looks like two backwash drains .. one broken
Main drain label MD
Skimmer drain label SK
The X are the ones I’m not sure what they are

Welcome to the forum!
With actuated valves, I assume you have an integrated spa.
I cannot follow the lines with that picture. More angles, some labeling will help.
Also, you need very little suction from the main drain. The skimmer should dominate in supplying the pump.

Not necessary. Maximize the skimmer draw so you skim more efficiently.
