Need help with pool and problem identification :(

Hello all,

I have been a pool owner for 6+ year and sadly can't confirm if its a Gunite or some other type (I think its Gunite), I have been trying to maintain the pool myself (all the chemical, filter and machine maintenance). However, for last few months I started to notice discoloration, I think my plaster is coming off and seems to have completely disappeared in patches. When I bought it, the pool surface was white. Then I ran into algae when I was advised to 'shock' and 'brush' by local pool store (Leslie`s) and I have been doing that ever since, which I am beginning to blame that I might have brushed off all the plaster . I am going to attempt upload pictures here, if anyone would be kind enough to help identify the pool type and if the surface still has plaster and needs acid wash or if it needs re-plastering.

Likely metallics. Usually iron.

Agreed. To be sure plano, test a small area with a vitamin C tablet (ascorbic acid). Check out this video for more info on pool metal staining & removal processes.

I've personally never pressure washed a pool surface and wouldn't recommend it. Let us know how the vitamin C treatment goes.

Two "pool techs" came by and as per them it seems like calcium related and suggested acid wash, would acid wash cause a problem if they empty pool using pool backwash after the acid wash?
