I am new to the forum. I have a 24k gallon gunite pool. I usually try to keep it maintained but I haven’t been able to do anything to it since last September. It it’s full of algae. I am going to try the slam method but the starting cya says 20 and I don’t have any cya readings it was tested at 0. So do I add stabilizer before I start the slam process or not?

Hi there...welcome. Do you have a GOOD test kit that includes the FAS-DPD chlorine tester? You'll need that, seriously. No other chlorine tester test chlorine as high and ACCURATELY as that and its important.
If you don't have a salt system, the TF-PRO kit would work and refills always go on sale each year. The seller includes the VERY handy battery stirrer (you'll feel like a chemist in. no time)! Yeah. it's not dirt cheap but it is worth every cent and in the end save you many dollars. I promise. TF-Pro

The other option is the K-2006C which has mostly the same amount of reagents, but the TF-Pro has more of the chlorine one you need most now.

Plan to do it ASAP! You need one to do the SLAM process to rid the pool of the algae. You also need to fill out your signature with the details of your pool and equipment so we know how to help you. In the meantime, depending on how large the pool is, you need to add at least 1/2 gallon of liquid chlorine per day until you get your test kit. Then we can get set to do your SLAM. Stock up on granulated CYA (3-5 lbs) and several gallons of LC. That is easily found at Walmart.
