Hello,
I have the pool in my signature. Currently have a Pentair FNS Plus 36 with Multivalve. Installed when the pool was new. The bottom is pebbletec.
A number of years ago, while cleaning the filter, I screwed in the drain plus and there was a pebble in the threads. This jimmied them up a bit and things have been dicey since.
I got worried enough about it that I cleaned the filter leaving the drain plug alone and bailing out the bottom of the filter.
I had an issue that required me to have a "pool person" here for the first time in like 10 years. I asked him about it and if there was a fix for it short of buying a filter. Since this guy repaired pools I thought he would be more pool smart than me, the guy who is the normal pool guy. This assumption would prove to be faulty...
He pulled off the drain, looked it over, and said the threads were fine. Told me that if I were to buy another filter to not buy a DE, but that everyone was getting rid of them and getting a cartridge. I said, "really"? He said you..
I believe when he put a new/used cap he had on his vehicle, he most likely cross threaded the drain plug. It has taken a month or so, but the plug blew out. Pool drained down till air hit the basket and thank god my IntelliFlo, said NO NO NO and shut down.
I had left the old drain plug in place for years because I didn't trust that I could remove and replace it, I should have gone with that feeling it seems.
So here's my questions:
1) Cartridge Filter? Really?
2) I don't care for having to deal with the drain on the FNS Plus, is there a better drain arrangement? I've had Hayward before and I can't say I liked it much either. maybe better though, that was a while ago.
3) What would you guys recommend?
