Our pool temperature was 85 this morning, just looked at it and it said 142 so I ran out to check it out and the pump sounded like it was working too hard so I turned it to service mode real quick.
The filter basket looked at at least half or more empty of water for some reason and the pressure was reading a little higher than it should’ve been but not crazy.
When I opened the lid to the filter basket it popped up like it was under pressure and the water in there was extremely hot. Like hotter than it should’ve been coming from the solar heater since it’s only 90° today. And it definitely did feel like 140°.

Weird right?? Anybody have any ideas what could’ve done this? Nothing has changed recently so I’m very confused.

I just filled up the filter basket with water and restarted it and it seems to be working fine. And the reading is back down to 85 for the pool temp.

Oh I did crank up the salt chlorinator to 100% for like the last two hours because we added a little water to the pool… not thinking that should’ve done anything

629,

When water has no place to go from the pump, the water in the pump basket, just gets churned up, and becomes hotter then heck..

It can get so hot that it will deform the pump and pump lid...

So.. the first thing to check is why is water not leaving the pump?? Shut off valve or some blockage or ???

Show us some pics of your equipment pad..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yep figured it out. Did not figure out how to delete the post but our skimmer baskets were completely overflowing full like one solid mass of Oak pollen. This is our first spring with a pool and I am literally in shock. I emptied them probably two days ago and I was surprised then when they were like one solid inch of oak pollen. Today it was I’m not joking like the full whatever 8 inches deep all the way to the top. We only have one tree remotely close to the pool. So wild. We had a betta bot that only worked for one week and they’re sending us a replacement. The worst possible week. Lesson learned. Thank you!

My skimmer always gets clogged up so I just shut mine off and rely entirely on 2 pool skimmer bots. When I don’t bad things happen like the pump gets starved of water usually when I’m at work. My neighbors have a lot of trees and this is the only viable solution for me.

If the skimmer is choked off and the pump can't enough water it will cavitate. The cavitation is what causes the raise in temperature.

Do you not have a main drain or if so was it possibly valved off? Not all pools have them but to me this is one good reason to have them. The skimmers can be 100% blocked (or valved off) but the pump can still get flow from the drain.
