First post!
Hi all! I have been reading all about the SLAM process, and have followed along for the past several days. My pool had looked like a swamp. Between hit days, a new chicken/coop adventure and just, well, lack of effort, our pool had taken a turn for the worst. I read up on the SLAM process, and started on Sunday. My first step was to bring my ph down from over 8.5 to 7.5. Once that was set, I calculated my CYA (zero), and started to add chlorine to shock level (10+). Since Sunday, I have tested TC every 3 hours during the day, adding more chlorine to keep TC above 10.
The pool had drastically improved, and this morning I can actually see the bottom, water looks just a bit cloudy. Last night I did an OCLT, and lost 1.5ppm.
I know I’m not done yet, because the water isn’t crystal clear, and my CC is 1. At this point, though, I’m wondering if I should address the CYA. I don’t want to keep dumping chlorine, just to be burned off by the sun. I’m thinking I should increase the CYA, then adjust chlorine level, brush and vacuum again today, and do another OCLT tonight...hoping that this might bring me to the end of the process.
Thoughts?
Here are my numbers this morning:
Ph = 7.2
FC = 6.5
CC =1
CH = 150
TA = 100
CYA = 0
I’ve included two pictures - the first was from last night, the second is from this morning. On Sunday, it was just GREEN
I appreciate all of the help and advice!!
