My pool is going green and it's nearing time to close in New Jersey. Is it safe to close it while it's green?

Like the title says, my pool is going green. I've been struggling with algae this summer since life has given me bigger priorities and I haven't had the energy to take care of it.

Temperatures are dropping next week. I'm thinking about closing in the next 2 weeks. I have a mesh pool cover and I assume that's why my pool is green whenever I open it in the Spring. Is it safe to just close it now? Or should I get the water clean before I close, even though it'll be green when I open?

Thanks!

Do the SLAM Process to rid the pool of the current algae problem then close with a clear algae free pool at slam level when the water temps come nearer 60 degrees & open the pool before water temps rise above 60 degrees.
You’ve been closing too soon & opening too late thus the the green opening.

Do you have the energy and can make it a priority to follow the SLAM Process step by step without shortcuts until you meet the 3 exit criteria?

If so then get the algae cleared now.

If you can not then accept you will have a mess to clean up next Spring when you have more time and energy.

Mess is an understatement. With pool water temps what they are, you gonna have a swamp.

I would SLAM and clean it up now, and don't close until mid October when pool water is below 60degrees.

If you do this ^^^ and follow the "closing an in ground pool" link above, then open before your pool water temps hit 60 or so, you should have a clear pool.
