Hello everyone.

Noticed the pump not running today and found the pump circuit breaker tripped on the “Pentair panel”. Breaker trips as soon I try turn on the main pump.
Change the panel to service mode and was able to turn on the breaker, however the pump display has no lights or info. As soon I move from service to auto, the breaker trips.

This is a 3 HP pump - the only number I have on the label is 354605, but I’m not sure this is the correct part number.
Pump is probably close to 10 years. I bought the house with the pool.

Ideas on what I should check? It’s 95 degrees Fahrenheit in Texas, so I may start troubleshooting after the sun is down! 😀

Both your pump CBs are GFCI.

It looks like you are getting a GFCI trip.

Any signs of water drips around the pump?

It just takes a bit of water getting into the motor to cause a GFCI trip.

You can open up the electric connection in the back of the pump and examine the wire connections for signs of water or corrosion.

You can disconnect the electrical wires into the pump and you MUST safe them off putting wire nuts on both wires. Then try and turn on the breaker and press the F relay. If the F relay goes on without a CB trip then it confirms the fault is in the pump.

I inspected the wires - no sign of water or corrosion.

I took the following steps:

1. Disconnected the control panel/display from the driver - tried to turn the breaker to ON and still tripped.
2. Disconnected the wires from the control panel/display (as you recommended), protected the wires - turned the breaker to ON and it stayed.

Is it right to assume the problem is with the control box only?
Could I just replace it or should the whole pump be replaced?
Whoever originally installed this pump didn’t use unions at the pump connections - this will be a pain to replace.

Show me pics of what you disconnected.

I don't understand what the difference in what you disconnected in 1 versus 2.
 
On 1. I disconnected the control panel (I just realized that this is maybe called driver) from the pump. I did this by removing the 3 top screws and pulling the box from the pump.

See picture below - this is the connector that connects to the top part of the pump, as you probably know.

At this point, I kept the electrical wires connected to it.
I was trying to isolate what was causing the circuit to short.
