My first post. As new 33 foot x 54 inch deep AGP is filling.

Wish I'd found this forum sooner. Glad to have it now.

New 33 foot all resin pool installed yesterday, presently filling off my (slow) well.

Just have general questions. Always good to hear from those more experienced.

First question is about back filling. The site prep was well done in my opinion. Had to cut about 22 inches into the high end of yard. He left a bunch of dirt on the high end for me to use for back filling.

I'm curious how to best handle this.

Should I wait until pool is full to do it?
The fill dirt is in large chunks. Should I work on crushing it before filling?

Any other general advice on this step? Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the pool and welcome to TFP...

I’m not positive on how this is done but I think I read that you don’t want chunks pushing against the pool shell. There will be someone along soon with a much better answer. Beautiful setting for your pool!

How about adding some weeper pipe around the high side to help keep water from pooling back there? Wrap it all the way around the pool in the shape of a U, having it drain on the low side in two locations.

Maybe a leach pipe would better explain it.

Some are corrugated with holes to allow water in.

I've used perforated and non perf to make French drains before. I would need to lay a bed of river rock or gravel down first, then the pipe then backfill over.

Correct? That's the way I've done in the past at least.

Bigger concern is how to granulize this dirt. I have a grapple bucket on my compact tractor, will try that.

Also, should I add any chemicals before the pool is full? Or wait till half way up skimmer so I can run everything?

I think you are saying the same thing, but just to make sure. The drain would be surrounded by rock, top, sides and bottom. Then covered with dirt.

You have a tractor with big wheels! Run those clods over. :D

As for the chemicals, I hung a sock with CYA in front of my fill hose to start dispersing it. Added half of the recommended LC when it was half full then the rest at 3/4 full to reach recommended CYA/FC level.

I do have a tractor with big wheels, but the fill dirt would have to be relocated to use such a direct action method lol. It's too close to the pool and lots of it would be pushed against the sides.

I'm going to hook up the grapple bucket later today and try busting it up that way.

I'll have a lot more control at least. Just not sure how small I can make before it easily sifts through the bars.

I'll figure something out.

Can I backfill now if I'm only at ~30 inches? It's a 54 inch pool but half way up skimmer puts me around 47 inches I think.

So about another 17 inches to full. Which is about 30 hours at my rate.

Eta- I was uninformed when I made the pool purchase and just bought the top end package they offered.

It included the Aquasmart plus system for chemical delivery. Not getting good feelings about this after reading this forum. Should I try and get a credit and switch to converting else prior to activating?

Don't back fill before pool is full. You can add chemicals or just wait, doesn't matter too much unless you are already warm and getting algae, just stir with a brush/broom or use a submersible to circulate so chems don't sit in one place on liner.

Understood. Will wait to backfill. That said, is there a preferred depth for the backfill?

As for chemicals, don't think I have any issues yet so will just wait to treat until full and pump and filter running.

I missed the equipment pad question earlier. Putting everything on something is the way to go. Just for the fact nothing will sink into the soil.

As for the Aquasmart, don't know anything about them. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Back fill to level with current ground or even slightly higher as I am sure it will settle a bit.

Perfect thanks

Yes make a pad out of pavers or poor a pad. My installer did not. Just set everyone the ground. And now it’s all sinking into the ground. The bracket to hold the motor and pump to the plastic small pad just big enough for the motor to set on is rusted out have to make a brack some way and the sand filter is leaning pretty bad. This fall when we are using the pool I will put pavers down and replume every thing like it is supposed to be.
