I started SLAM 2 weeks ago and here are my details from the past two days. I am heading towards the home stretch!
I can see the bottom, I can see where to vacuum the remaining algae.

Now, I understand that I have to reach 20.0 for my SLAM level. I will continue with testing, vacuuming, backwashing, etc. until I reach SLAM. Will I keep it at 20 for half a day, 2 days? What do I do next?
For example pretend I am reaching the SLAM level later today, and my overnight chlorine loss is less than 1.0......what is next exactly? And in what order?

thank you!

Perhaps you misunderstood. You should be at the SLAM FC level now. Not "build-up" to it. You need to "maintain" that elevated FC level of 20 for the SLAM to work properly.

Now once the water is crystal clear, the CC level is 0.5 or less, and you pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, then you are done with the SLAM Process.

Make sense?

I realize my numbers did not yet reach 20ppm (SLAM level) .

I am following the App instructions on how much chlorine to add in order to reach SLAM level.

Am I doing it wrong in some way?

If adding the amount indicated in the app, you need to test again in 15-20 minutes to see if you attained your desired FC goal. If not, add more chlorine to attain the desired goal.

Chances are, if not getting to goal, your entered pool volume is lower than actual or your chlorine is weaker than what the bottle says (or the percent entered in PoolMath is not the same as a bottle percentage).

Review the SLAM Process
There are 3 exit criteria - you need to meet all 3, not just the overnight loss.

I printed my instructions and everything. Waaaah You mean I do not have to wait 2 hours between adding chlorine to the pool? I am understanding this a whole different way. This is missing from the SLAM video. Thank you proavia and thank you Texas Splash.

My recent reading for FC was 17.5... I added 3 cups of chlorine like the App told me. I will measure once again in 5 more minutes, then add appropriate chlorine. I will have to make the time to keep measuring today and keep it steady at 20ppm. Shall I measure every hour? every 15 minutes? It is 12:30pm locally 90+ degrees outside and will rain tomorrow night. How long shall I maintain at 20? Hours? Days? Thanks for explaining it with such detail and for your fast responses, by the way.

Test and replace no more often than every 2 hours. Test, add enough to get to target, wait 2+ hours, test again. No need to test after the addition.

Maintain 20 until you meet the exit criteria for slam. Print this out and keep with you...Link-->SLAM Process

In the beginning of a SLAM Process, there is a learning curve, not only for a new TFP member but sometimes even a seasoned pool owner as pool conditions change from year to year. Do keep in mind that while a fantastic tool, the PoolMath APP doesn't know each & every scenario's details. The APP can only provide results and info based on the data entered. This is why coming here and asking some questions is always a good thing. We understand not only the SLAM FC level required, but see/hear the conditions you are explaining to us and anything else unique to your situation.

The time between testing can vary. You might test more often for the first day or so, but quickly it "should" get more steady and predictable. Hang in there and do your best to maintain the FC of 20. You'll see a pattern begin to develop and the process will feel much more smooth.

These are good points about the strength of my chlorine. I am hanging in and I just grab a popsicle when I go back out in the heat to re check my FC level. I will keep track of all 3 exit criteria.

I have more data to report from today.

CYA is 30 I was checking every 6 days roughly- SLAM level was a higher (20) number -
FC is 13.5 (SLAM level is now at 12)

CC is .5

I like this trend. My pool app gave me the new SLAM level automatically. I can do the overnight test now?
I have a clear pool by the way.
