What does the water look like? Can you see the bottom of the pool?

With CYA of 100 have you done the diluted CYA test?

For CYA > 90ppm, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:

  1. Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark (15 ml line) with pool water.
  2. Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark (30 ml line) with tap water.
  3. Shake briefly to mix.
  4. Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark (15 ml line).
  5. Continue the test normally from adding R-0013, but multiply the final result by two.

If you need to dilute the pool water further then apply these ratios:[7]

Pool waterTap or distilled waterMultiply result by
112
123
145

Note that when doing a diluted test not only do you multiply the range of the test you multiply the error rate of the test, so results are a ballpark - not an absolute.

See CYA Testing for tips in how to read the test results.

It is safe to swim so long as all these are true:
*Fc is between min & slam level for your cya
See—> FC/CYA Levels
* ph is in the 7’s
AND
* you can see the bottom of the deep end for swimmer safety

That said- how large is your pool?
Small drains and refills take more water than one larger exchange & it may take a while to get cya to a reasonable level.
Exchanging 1/2 of your water will reduce cya by 50%

Also pool is 18 x 52 vinyl

Follow Aj’s instructions in post #2 on doing the diluted cya test & report back.
This will help confirm your cya level so you know just how much water to exchange.

Visible algae requires the
SLAM Process.
That is impractical to do at such high cya levels.
Until you get the water exchanged & can do the slam process you’ll want to keep the fc at 8ppm or above to keep it sanitary for swimmers - use liquid chlorine
& PoolMath for calculating amounts.

Also, if you’re unsure of your pool volume there’s a calculator at the bottom of this page

When you get a chance please fill out your signature it helps make sure you get accurate advice.

I did the diluted test and it is even between the 40 and 50 line almost exactly maybe a tiny bit closer to 40.
Okay so your CYA is around 100.

You need to get your CYA down to 30-40 by draining 60% to 70% of the water.
