My 24 Egg Pool

Thanks guys! I love the encouragement. I tried to rig the basket cup last night (the large plastic cup the basket sits in where you attach hose from skimmer, what is it called?) but it did not work :(. I think the whole thing can be bypassed but that seems like it could only be a short term solution. So I have decided to take it in to the pool store (we have several). There is one that is run by a guy who is, I'll say a "character". I just need to know if the pump is worth keeping or if it has other hidden problems and I feel like he will tell me the truth.

The horses kicked down part of the arena fence the other day and so today I am ripping out what is left of that section and will be making stairs to enter the pool out of 2x6's. The pool is partially buried at this point so just little stairs that will do until I can get to work on an actual deck. I will absolutely be taking pix today!

If it's on the pump itself it's commonly called a leaf pot, I do believe.

IMHO, I'd probably buy a new pump, especially since that one's 20 years old. If you do opt for a new pump, get a 2-speed. They do help with electricity costs.

I love seeing other people's disaster areas and works-in-progress so more of mine! Here is the start of my temporary stairs made out of two sections of arena fence the horses took out a few days ago. Guaranteed to give you splinters. You can see I still have some backfilling to do and cannot tell from the pix but I am still tweaking a few top rails. I repainted everything from "kinda white" to "winter gray". Like a battleship.

The second pic is another ugly one. I am at a week and a half with no filtration and we have had two major storms in that time. The pool is surrounded by dusty horse pens and big trees so I continue my human skimmer program. Local Doughboy dealer just called me back and can get me my pump part in a week. Can't seem to get it anywhere else (Doughboy will only sell to dealers) and rigging the thing with another brand part is a major hassle that may not work so I am going for it.

My oldest girl starts kindergarten in two weeks. This signals the end of summer, right? Will the pool ever be done? No, 'course not.

Just picked up my pump part at the pool store, so happy! Has been around 3 weeks since I filled the pool, water is still clear but so much sediment on the bottom I am dying to vacuum. I have been working on fence and adding bleach here and there whenever the mood strikes. Asked my husband to pick some up last weekend and he got "lavender scent". Hmmm. We live in the country so it's not terribly convenient to run to the store and I did dump some in - hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot.

So...after a big storm a few weeks ago (and a long absence from TFP) I re-introduced myself to the pool. The storm tore the cover off and dumped a lot of debris into the water. Leaves, dirt, 2 sleds, huge branches, umbrella and base, the neighbor's garbage! Thick brown soup. I fished everything out and dumped some bleach in and stirrrrred! Back to blue in 2 days but of course a long way from where I want to be - and I had not planned to have the cover off so early.

Since then I have buried the East side of the pool up to about a foot from the top (set into a hill) and picked up a slide. I am working on a "dock" that will wrap 2/3 of the pool. Complete with rope wrapped piling, fishnet and dock cleats - so far it is looking great and I will be posting pix!

I am just itching to work on it every day but Spring in Idaho looks a lot like winter.
