Mustard Algae, or is it?

Hired a pool company to open pool. It was full of debris and was dark green. When they left they said they had added 6- CAL-HYPO SHOCK SHOCK WAVE and put a chlorine tabs in the skimmer basket. The water was cloudy and lighter green when they left. I brushed again threw in some algaecide. Waited a day, brushed and vacuumed again then tested the water. I brought up my salt level, which kicked on my SWG, adjusted TA, and FC and PH fell into sync. I was left with crystal clear water with a dark shadow on the walls. This is where I jumped the gun. I did not do an OCLT, just went into SLAMing the pool for mustard algae. My CYA was 50 when I started the SLAM. I am on day 3 of slamming and while the shadow is fading, it is doing so slowly. Is this normal? My CC this morning is less than .5 and tested the same yesterday as it did this morning. I was going to attempt the OCLT but an unexpected rain shower in the very early morning threw my results off and we have rain for the next three days which is going to throw me for a loop.

Should I continue the SLAM and wait to do the OCLT when we get clear of rain OR have I missed the mark and this is something else?

Pardon my shadow in the pics. It was overcast this morning and was hoping the assumed "algae shadow" would show in the pics.

Welcome! I don't know if I'd say you jumped the gnn so much with the SLAM as perhaps the Mustard algae level. The MA level is only intended for 24 hrs anyways. By the looks of that photo, I can make-out the dark, organic-looking staining or material on the walls and lower crease. Even though your numbers may seem good, I would maintain the SLAM, but only for regular SLAM FC levels. In your case, with a CYA of 50, maintain an FC of 20 and continue brushing those areas for the next couple days. No telling how long that stuff has had a chance to bond to the vinyl, but consistant brushing "should" help to penetrate the biofilm barrier and allow the chlorine to penetrate. Stick with it for a bit longer and see how that area looks. Let us know.

Ok....follow up - continued with SLAM. Past two mornings the OCLT has been .5. However, there is still a slight shadow around the bottom of the pool at the crease. So, I did what all good moms do and had my son jump in and give the shadow a feel. He said it wasn't slimy and scratched at it some. When he came up his fingers were orangey-yellow. Should I continue the SLAM? And yes, I have been brushing and vacuuming everyday. I gave my son a brush as well and asked him to brush at it some, and he said it helped when looking at it in the pool. Thoughts?

I think this is where you use that young man's strong lungs and elbows to keep at it. Builds character, and maybe earns him a reward for all the hard work. Sounds like the scrubbing is just what the pool needed to break through that very tough bio-film area.
