Muriatic Acid Question

I use the Taylor test kit to test PH level every 2 days and most times the PH shows high and I add the required amount of muriatic acid to bring it to normal. I just checked and I have added 4 gallon in the past 2 months. The pool is about 15,000 gallons and I line in Southern California and its been very hot those 2 months. Does it seem normal to use that amount of acid ? If not any suggestions on why my pool's PH level always rises so quickly? I target a chlorine level of 5ppm and get pretty close to hitting that.

Thanks!

What is your pool water TA and fill water pH and TA?

Pool TA=90
Hose Water PH=8.0
Hose Water TA= 210

High TA causes pH to rise more rapidly. If your TA was around 60 your pH rise would slow.

With fill water having TA of 210 it will be difficult keeping your TA low when you have evaporation and need to add water to your pool.

How old is your plaster?

Do you have an autofill?

I think your acid usage is normal for your pool environment.

Normally TA falls to about 60 after I add the acid but quickly rises to 80 or 90
The plaster is about 12 years old.
I do not have an auto-fill (that does sound like a cool thing to investigate!)

So I'm guessing based on your input that its the hot summer causing evaporation and the need for more frequent refills with high TA hose water that causes the PH to be so high and hence the high acid consumption.

Thanks for your help!
