Allen, what about the galvanic corrosion properties involved? Should the insert be the same material as the rail? Or does brass cover that issue?

And I would think the insert has to be metal if the rail is, right? For bonding?

Brass is metal. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc.

Right, I just meant the OP shouldn't be considering a plastic one.

Brass is frequently used as the buffer between 2 dissimilar metals because it's iron content is so low, it will not rust.

Cool. The description from Allen's linked example brass anchor states it won't rust or corrode.

Match the anchor to the railing. Match the O.D. of the railing to the I.D. of the anchor.

A railing will sit lower if put in a 6” deep anchor then a 4” anchor.

I prefer having things in hand so the folks cementing it into the deck can confirm they have it right.

When our handrail anchors were installed, they used the actual handrail to verify spacing (just in case there was any changes between the specs and the actual product in-hand). The handrail anchors were installed right before plaster (travertine deck and coping) and the handrail wasn't installed until after plaster.

Actually. Probably scratch my idea. Those are my ladder rail anchors. Stair anchors wouldn't be locked into a certain width like the ladder would.

The cost of fixing this leak was immaterial compared to the cost of the concrete the plumbing or even the whole pool itself. Not worth it to ask my concrete guy to reimburse for it.

This is the leak caused by arrant screw by the concrete guy. Good thing it happened too because the plumber found another leak in the pipe feeding the auto fill probably from a stake driven by the rebar used by the Shotcrete contractor to hold up tarps shielding the house from Shotcrete over spray.
