I'm currently using the FAS-DPD test kit to get my water in balance - my plan is to have it to where I can use quality test strips once a day to show me that I'm good enough or that something might be off, and only have to use the Taylor kit once or twice a week to get a detailed reading of where I'm at.

Are there any test strips that are considered to be more reliable than others?

All are just guess-strips. Since they only provide a range. Did you get the TF-100 test kit? It comes with a simple K-1000 mini kit that lets you test for FC and pH. If my FC is 5 or higher I am fine and the pH is easy to read. Your TA, CYA and CH shouldn't change that much so a simple test of FC and pH daily with that mini kit should meet your needs.

I got the Taylor K-2006 - but I like the idea of having a smaller test kit for FC and pH - thanks!

I use a K-1004 as it includes TA and acid demand. It’s also a DPD (pink) chlorine test so it works well. You could get the K-1001 which is DPD chlorine and pH. I’m not a huge fan of the cheaper K-1000 which is OTO (yellow) chlorine test.
