I'm preparing to replace a 20 year old MiniMax NT with a Mastertemp 400. I bought the Mastertemp, which was delivered yesterday, with the intention of replacing it myself as I've replaced pumps and filters, etc. in the past. Yesterday after looking at the gas connection to my existing heater, I'm having second thoughts. I don't have any concerns with the wiring and plumbing, but the gas connection is corroded and I'm a little worried about the integrity of the upstream shutoff valve. Assume I could just contract a plumber to take care of the gas line and I could do the rest or I could find a pool company to do the entire install, although I already bought the heater.

Any thoughts on where to go from here? Please let me know if anyone in the north Houston area has a good contact for potentially installing. Regardless I would like to be part of the process to learn.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know Houston contacts but agree you should get a licensed gas contractor to fix the gas line and do the gas connection. Any company who installs gas appliances should be able to do it.

You have other gas appliances in the house? Who do you call for service?

Thanks for the tip Allen. We haven't had any work done on our gas appliances, but I did reach out to some plumbers. I found a local pool guy that offered to do it relatively cheap, so I still come out ahead. He's one of the best around, so glad that will work out. I'll watch him do it and ask some questions to learn. Definitely glad to have someone help with the gas line connection.
