Metal Magic, Chlorine levels?

How long does the chlorine level need to be down after the initial treatment of Metal Magic? Direction on bottle says resume normal operation 48 hrs after initial treatment, but I am real nervous to have low level that long.

It seems to me that if it's still removing stains, elevating chlorine is not a good idea.

According to the Pool Geek instructions (https://www.poolgeek.com/products/proteam-metal-magic):

This product may start to work immediately, but may take up to a week to penetrate deeply imbedded stains. Depending on water conditions and amount of metals, scale and other materials present, pool water may turn hazy. This is normal and an indication that the product is working.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in here.

I held my CYA to only 25 ppm just for this reason and I keep my FC between 2 and 3, given the low CYA. It's actually working very well (uses only about 650 ml of 5% LC daily). I'll drop FC to 1 ppm when I treat the stains. I did add boric acid and now have 50 ppm borates to delay the onset of algae too. I didn't want to go the Polyquat 60 route.

Here's where I'm at in the battle:

Have you read the ProTeam "Sponge Test" instructions? http://www.proteampoolcare.com/images/uploads/MetalMagicSpongeTest.pdf

I just read the bottle again. (The MM instructions vary a bit between ProTeam Sponge Test instructions, ProTeam instructions on the bottle and various MM retailer website instructions.) The bottle says, "After 48 hours resume normal operations," which I take to mean normal FC levels, but it also says, "Avoid shocking pool water for up to 1 week after application." So, by the bottle instructions, normal FC after 48 should be okay, even if it's still working on stains, but don't shock it for a week.

Thanks for the replies. I am reading/understanding the same things from the bottle directions. Just worrying that leaving chlorine low for 48 hrs and having a bather load might create a need to shock. I am wondering how much less effective the stain lifting capabilities are when Cl is a 3 vs. when it is lower. Really don't want to trade a problem with light metal stains for a problem caused by holding Cl levels to low.
