Maytronics Dolphin M600 - issue with skirt

Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice. I have the M600 robot vacuum that is now 3 years old. The rubber skirt on the bottom of the vacuum (officially titled “Inlet Chassis Elastomer”, part number 9983262) has started to come apart/disintegrate. The main issue is that the failing rubber is extremely gummy and sticky and leaving a think tar residue in certain areas of my pool (mainly stairs).

It’s an inexpensive and easily replaceable part but unfortunately not in stock at any of my local pool supply stores or authorized Maytronics stores. I ordered the part - was told would take weeks.

My question is has anyone else experienced such degradation of this area of the vacuum? The supplier strongly pushed the narrative that I am doing something wrong with my water chemistry or operation of the vacuum, which I don’t think is true. My water chemistry is very well balanced using the testing methods I learned here. I do use the vacuum daily but I remove it from the water and store it on the caddy in between runs.

Also, while waiting for this part I did decide to check if the robot would still work with the skirt removed. I did a quick trial and it seemed to vacuum the floor just fine. What does this skirt actually accomplish? Does it help maintain a suction seal? Or does it help with cleaning/wiping action?

The black streaking is quite dramatic and VERY difficult to remove, especially in the deeper sections of the pool - required magic eraser and degreaser.

Many thanks.

I attached some photos.

Do you rinse the robot when you pull it out of the water? You don't list anything about your pool such as Chlorination type(salt), so that may be why the piece is degrading. I rinse mine off every time I pull it out of the pool, because of the Chlorine and salt residue.
