May the fun begin - conversion of 15 yr Baquacil pool

Tested at 315pm
FC was down to 4
pH doesn't want to rise much even though I have added baking soda a few times in small increments the past 24-48 hrs. Have not tested Alkalinity since starting the process. Will run that test tonight.

When things get somewhat stabilized, adding the CYA I read about a sock. Any old sock will do or what is the process for this?

If you have real skimmer socks you could use that, or I won’t lie, I’ve used old gym socks, and once, an old plush Eeyore sock that lost its mate!

End of Day 3 last night, at 8pm FC was down to 6.5 probably due to sunlight maybe. I pulled the light out of its niche and as normal, baqua-white mold crapola was there. Cleaned out as best possible. Added about a gallon of 12.5% and put at least 2 qts near the niche. Netted as much goop as I could from the niche.

Around 930p I checked again, 17ppm... highest reading so far. Fished out more white mold that I could see by flashlight. Pool was getting pretty clear.

Day 4.
This morning FC was down to 12.5 and looking very clear, still tinted. Can see clearly to deepest end. Picture of the robot cleaning the deep end attached. Added a few qts of 12.5%.

I plan to brush as able today, vaccuum this evening and retest and add what is needed.

FC down to 6 or so by noon. Added 1/2 - 2/3 gallon. Pool clean and clear, still a green tint to it.

Good morning, welcome to Day 5.
Cloudy, breezy, 47 degrees in NW Ohio.
FC 14.5
CC 2.5
pH 7.3 - 7.4

Water clear but still a tad green. Early morning, a bit of glare from the surface but the water is very clear.

Tonight by 9pm, FC was down to 1, CC was about 1-1.5 range. Pool was practically clear, too mee still a little green but the wife said it was getting back to the light blue, pool wall color (but I'm color blind so who the heck knows).

I have added 1.3 gallons of 12.5% as recommended by poolmath page. The pH test came back still a tad under 7.2 if I am seeing correctly. I tried the Alk test, seemed to be 75-80 which was up from last week's 55-60ish.

Since I am planning soon to install the RJ-30, I tried the salt test. Turned milky but by 4th drop, brown. I never saw it get red. Was just curious what it would do.

I do plan to test FC one more time around 1030p to allow the chlorine added earlier to circulate.

If it doesn't drop much overnight, then next is to change out the filter? I am replacing the old sand filter for a new DE.
