So my English Mastiff decided to run across my pool cover today. Low and behold there is a LOT of water in my pool here in NY.

I live north of NYC about an hour, plan on opening in mid-April to get things going.

Despite having drained my pool for winter down to 18 inches below outlets, the water level is now at its operation height....seems we got a good bit or precipitation.

Should I drain this water back a few feet? Or just let it go considering it's almost time to get started?

I don't want any damage done via freeze, days are around 40s and nights get to 29ish at this point.

My neighbor has a pool and he said he just let's his get nice and full and drains it off at opening.

What are your thoughts?

In ground, vinyl lined, and the pumps and all equipment is stored inside for winter.

I have a sump pump my neighbor lent me. Could do a few feet pretty easily.

If you have gizmos, or plugs and noodles in the skimmers...and your returns are plugged, I'd leave it alone, you should be fine. If it gets close to the top/over the top of the skimmer inlet opening, and/or you don't have gizmos in the skimmers, I'd drop the sump in and lower it...4" below the skimmer should be fine for the spring.

You can use a shop vac to get the water in the skimmer pot.

Let it go. No reason to drain at this time of year.

But don’t let water overflow in your liner pool.
