Mastertemp heater automation connections.

I’ve been lurking around the site for a while but this is actually my first post. Lots of great information here.

I have a Jandy RS8 automation system controlling my pool and spa. I have an old Pentair Minimax NT pool heater controlled by the Jandy via a two wire connection. Well, the Minimax has finally given up and is being replaced. I will be picking up a Mastertemp 400HD this weekend. Lucky for me, my in-laws are switching their pool over to solar heating and they are giving me their two-year-old Mastertemp heater that they no longer need. (talk about great timing)

So, my question is, from reading a bit, it looks like I need to connect to the firemans switch on the new Mastertemp if I’m using a two wire system. The Minimax is not connected to the firemens switch (I don’t even know if it has one) it’s just connected to the common and the spa terminal on the back of the board. Is this simply a matter of pulling the two spade terminals off the Minimax and connecting them to the firemens switch on the Mastertemp? Is this a voltage type of circuit or is this simply a continuity open/close situation?

I just want to make sure that the Jandy automation needs to send to the same signals to the Mastertemp as it did to the Minimax.

Thanks in advance

The Minimax NT doesn't have a fireman's switch. Yes just connect the two wires from your automation to the fireman's switch on the MasterTemp. Then put the heater in pool or spa mode and crank the temp to 104 on the heater.

I’m assuming you don’t put the Mastertemp in remote mode? Do you just use the local controls and then the fireman switch just kills power to the heater. I assume it remembers it settings when the Aqualink calls for heat again?
