Haven't seen much talk or specific posts about the older Master Pools Turbo Clean in-floor cleaning systems, so I'll share my experience.

I did much research with the help of some amazing customer service at aamfg.com & pool supply unlimited, and discussed between Turbo Clean heads or the A&A manufacturing's retrofit 'sprinkler' style. Was able to get quotes for $120 for each TC head while the A&A heads (with retrofit collar) was $50 per head.
I actually bought the house without any clue as to what these holes in my pool were. Neither did a pool guy and home inspectors! Previous owners abandoned the system. The outlet valve didn't change stations (gears were ground flat) so it didn't make sense and there isn't much info online, though TFP was the most helpful so I want to give back.
Now that I've repaired the 5 port Valve (thanks again to aamfg.com), and installed A&A retrofit heads, I can't be happier. No more dealing with stuck pool cleaners and trying to swim around the hose. I do need to brush the walls more frequently, and manually vacuum every other month, but that's about it.
I've attached before/after images. I will say I've never experienced the Turbo Clean heads, and haven't heard any experiences...anyone on here have? Is the water distributed evenly over the circumference with the TC? I like the pressure of the A&A heads, but it does take 2 hours of high speed pump time (I Have a VS pump) to hit each station and turn 360 and kick up all the dirt on the pool floor. It's been 18 months and so far no issue, but I'm sure the heads will fail-but I'd rather pay $40 for a new A&A head than $120 for a TC head. Maybe the TC heads will last longer?

Hi - I just purchased a home with the same set up. I've been researching on-line for replacement parts. Did you end up just buying a replacement valve or did you keep the original master pools one? Mine seems to be in pretty good shape so I think I will just replace the gear plate that is missing. If you did replace it what did you get and how is it working for you? Also, regarding the heads... Did you have to pull out the old cans from your pool or do these A&A ones fit right into the old ones from the master pools system? If you had to replace them how is it that would be done? Did you empty the pool?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Glad you reached out, let me know your progress!
I’m not sure if it was the original valve case, but gears were worn and didn’t allow for changing of stations so I’d at least recommend replacing the gear assembly & gasket that comes in the kit from A&A. The gear/valve kit you need to purchase depends on if you have acrylic balls or t-valves and how many bottom ‘ports’ you have. Not too difficult if you feel comfortable—Youtube and TFP is helpful!
Gears will wear out and I just replaced the entire valve assembly and PVC Connections due to multiple leaks that developed 2 years after putting it back in service. Also swapped acrylic ball valve to tvalve which I’m told is better. It’s working fantastic, also recommend ensuring you get good flow from main drain as that helps improve removal of floor debris over just skimmer. Replacing entire valve...that was a BIG job with about $500 in parts.
Prior home owners gutted my system and left me with no old heads so getting the A&A TurboClean retrofit kit comes with adapter and head and turns it perfectly flush to pool floor (pop up heads, Old TC heads were toe destroyers I’m told). The adapter and head fit right into TC holes. You must get the installation tool (#522061) That you’ll place onto any pool pole and can install heads with a simple quarter turn to ‘lock’ the adapter and head into place. No need to drain pool, but install may take patience and good daylight. It it pops out under pressure fish it out and try again ;). Gaskets for adapter and head and pop ups will only last 3-4 years. I’ve likely spent $1200 on the system with the recent valve job, but for my climate it’s worth it! Also heats pool and circulates water so efficiently. Many may feel in Floor is a waste, and to go for a robot. I’m contemplating purchasing a robot also, but once you become intimately aware of your In-Floor, you’ll love it too!
