Hello everyone - I feel like an idiot, I can’t seem to engage the manual mode on my Jandy Valve w automation actuator that runs my waterfall.

I’ve read up and down online (including the manual) and I understand how it SHOULD work - switch to OFF, turn the handle knob loose a little bit, push in the knob to disengage the gears, then manually turn valve handle. But I swear no amount of pushing seems to get the knob to push in and disengage the gears. The only thing I’ve noticed different is that some of the tutorial videos online seem to have the knob shaft be metal, where mine is plastic? Maybe I have some kind of one where it doesn’t push in?

Backstory is that the people who did my pool automation were lazy idiots and they didn’t bother to run the actuator power wire in a outdoor conduit, so some critters chewed the wire and now it won’t work.

Bonus question - what are these white plastic probe looking pieces that are connected to the automation but are just dangling over my plumbing?

Thanks for any help! TFP has really helped me as a new pool owner (old pool but new to me), chemicals and water balance I’ve got down. Plumbing and electric ive still got a ways to go.

The white probe is your air temperature. sensor,

The same probes are used for water temperature and solar temperature.

sensor...

Beans,

That is because you have a Jandy valve, but a Pentair Actuator.

Pentair actuators do not have the manual mode... :(

Thanks,

Jim R.
Ah well duh, now that you mention that it’s quite obvious. That is good information, if not disappointing. Seems insane to make a electrical actuator without the ability to manually switch…Good thing I didn’t continue to push harder!

I guess the only solution is to fix the chewed wires to restore power!

Beans,

I can't tell what is what, but your water temp probe needs to be in the pipe between the pump and the filter. The air temp probe just hangs out the bottom of your automation system.

Thanks,

Jim R.
