Maintaining Salt Levels

Hi - I noticed that I keep needing to add salt to my pool every 30 to 60 days. I added a 40 pound bag about a month ago which took it up to 3200 and the salt level week over week keeps dropping lower and now it’s back to 2800 again. The lights on the salt cell show green but when I test it with my Tayler test kit, it shows 2800. Just wondering what causes the salt to drop, is this normal? The pool temp today is 64° does that have any bearing on the salt level? Appreciate any insight thank you.

IC40's will almost always have bigger errors as the water gets colder. But that should not affect the Taylor salt tests. As a test, you can take a sample inside and let it warm up to room temp and test the salt level again.

Salt does not normally disappear, so it sounds like you have a leak to me.

How much water are you have to add during the same period?

Water level is steady, rarely have to add water. Rain has been mild, nothing too bad. Jim, I like your idea of bringing a sample in to warm up and then testing it.
