Instead of forking over 800-1000 for an electrician to install a pool light when building my new pool, I thought we might go with something like a magnetic LED pool light that stamps onto the pool wall. See link below for an example (not getting this one, just to show an example).

My question is, do you think it is 'OK or safe to put these magnetic lights onto the pool wall? I have steel walls with vinyl liner. Do you think I would risk ripping the liner at all?

It takes quite a bit of power even with an LED to get enough light to illuminate water. The price is low enough it is worth a try but i doubt you will be happy with the results. You may want to consider asking your builder to put in conduits for nicheless led lights and just cap them in the pool. All they have to do is run PVC should be no more than a couple hundred I would think that way you have an easy upgrade down the road if you want.
