Hi,
I need to lower the PH of my pool (currently sitting at what looks like 8.2, the test goes to 8 and the water turns a bit more purple than that) but can't currently find muriatic or hydrochloric acid.
I have found sulfuric acid, but TFP guides recommend not using it due to the sulfates.
I have also found a pool descaler, which according to the label claims to be 10-25% hydrochloric acid. It doesn't list any other component, but I'm a bit hesitant to use it since I guess it is sold as descaler and not as PH minus for a reason? Also, the UN number doesn't match that of hydrochloric acid (UN1760 vs UN1789), so I'm worried it may contain other stuff not listed in the label.
Do you think it would be OK to use the descaler to lower the PH even if I there is no chance I have any scale whatsoever (recently resurfaced pool, soft water, slightly negative CSI)? Maybe the sulfuric acid is safer if it is only going to be used a couple of times? Or just leaving the PH high for a while is just better?
Thanks in advance.
