Low TA and low PH

Asking for my friends Pool who I just introduced TFP. His TA is at 30 and PH is at 6.8. Should he be adding the backing soda to deal with the TA or add borax for PH?
First I was thinking to deal with ph but maybe better to deal with TA so the ph will be more maintainable.
He has a round AGP 12,000 gallon sand filter.

Add baking soda to bring TA to 70 ppm. Then test pH. Most likely only need aeration to raise pH into the 7s

Alternatively he can use Washing Soda, which will raise both TA and pH. Use PoolMath (top of page) to guide you as to how much of any of those chemicals to use.

I stole this from Richard:
Baking Soda = big TA change, small pH change
Borax = Big pH change, small TA change
Washing Soda = big pH change, big TA change. Probably more TA change than you want.
