Need help on salt level after a water drain & fill. To deal with iron stains and sequestration, I used the tarp method and got nearly all the old water out via siphon. Then 16k gallons fresh fill from softened (no iron) well water with TA ~400.
On to the salt question: yesterday added 200 lb solar salt and got to 900ppm. Then today added another 200 lb and got to 1800 ppm. Pool math says the 400 lb should get me to 3000ppm, which is my target. Question is if salt concentration tests are accurate within 3-4 hrs and there is no salt visible on the bottom? Salt was brushed around well and pump plus swim jets running low continuously to mix well. Does water temp affect salt ppm...don't think so?? For salt ppm, I am using the Taylor R0630 chromate and R0718 silver nitrate reagents. The R0630 has a best used by date of 04/2025 and the R0178 has a best used by date of 07/2024. Possible the R0630 is bad? it's been stored inside for the past year and I use it only on occasion (hot tub fill). Do I keep adding salt? Wait until spring?
Also, I'm working the TA down with muriatic and homemade pvc sprinkler for aeration. Would high TA affect the salt ppm? Any issues with leaving TA that high over the winter? Getting ready to close later this week. Thanks....
pH 7.5, FC 3.0, CC 0.5, CH 75, TA 340, CYA 30. passed OCLT last night & water is clear. water temp is 63F.

Question is if salt concentration tests are accurate within 3-4 hrs and there is no salt visible on the bottom?
No, you should let the salt circulate with pump on for 24-48 hours, then test.
Possible the R0630 is bad?
It is possible, but the error with bad reagent is typically number that are too high.
Do I keep adding salt?
No. See answer #1.
Would high TA affect the salt ppm?
No.
