Will be 5th year on Hayward Aqua Rite (T-9). Its been in +700 CH water for at least 3 of those years. I have since just drained/filled. Water is testing at 3200 with taylor drop test. Cell is reading 2400 consistently now and stays at that after resetting at the console. Salt and inspect cell flash after resets. I'm assuming it's about dead. Take it into store and have it tested? Its cold water, 55 degrees so its right on the edge of producing anything but want to see about new one. Should I just replace with same model or is there something "better" out there now?

Nothing good has changed with SWG systems in many years.

Have it tested. I suspect it's getting close to EOL, but you won't know until you have it tested.

Being in the desert southwest with a 10,500 gallon pool, I'd suggest replacing it with a T-15 (40,000 gallon) cell when the time comes. A T-15 cell should last longer than a T-9 cell and gives better flexibility for pump scheduling and SWG percentage/run times.

If you keep the water properly balanced, having a higher CH isn't really an issue until the CH gets over 1000ppm. Use PoolMath and track CSI. Keep the CSI in the 0.00 to -0.30 range and it should keep the SWG from scaling.

Next step, where do i get one. Is there a recommended dealer online? I see hundreds of websites all offering different prices. Alot of out of stock for my speicific unit as well. What price should I be expecting?

Yeah I found this site mid last summer so my PH/TA and CH were not managed like they are now. I'm sure the poor cell got beat up pretty bad the first few years although I did clean it every few months.

Not sure if that's the going price or not.
Use caution with generic cells. Some have had good luck with them and others not.

EDIT - disregard - that's for a Pentair IC40 and you have a Hayward cell.

My closest pool store has the T25 generic brand in stock for $999. The T9 is over double my pool size so 40,000 gallons seems overkill. I didn't ask about warranty eitehr. Will ask around the other stores.
Hah, the store just down the road has same cell, for 749. Might have to take that one.
