Hi there, recently moved into a house with a pool about six months ago. Somebody was taking care of the pool we stopped and now I am.

Been dealing with a consistent low flow air. I’ve checked the skimmers, They are free of debris,
I’ve even backwash the filter twice in the past month and a half every time I shut the filter off prime it and run it. It seems to work for a bit, and then the low flow error comes back within an 2 to 3 hours. The pump is usually running at 2500 RPMs but if I rev the pump to 2800 or 2900 RPMs, the low flow air goes away.

Have checked the pump cover, cleaned the o ring and added silicon to it. There is a small crack starting but nothing major.

One issue has been one of the skimmer doors seems to randomly shut and it’s very hard to open, would this cause low flow?
Other issue is, there is a little water under the pump outlet pipe, not sure if that has anything to do with a low flow.

I plan on cleaning the salt cell soon, no idea if it’s ever been cleaned, the indicator is not lit up.

I fear there is air getting in some way but no idea how. The piping that I can see by the filter, seems to be ok with no crazy leaks.

It’s 13000 gallon pool, SWG and with a Pentair DE filter.

Could use any advice!

Doc,

You most likely have algae, even if you can't see it yet..

The key is that after you backwash it works for a while, and then the problem comes back..

Algae will clog a DE filter in hours.

If your pool is green or cloudy, then you need to SLAM... SLAM Process

If your pool is clear, then you need to perform an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (OCLT).. Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ahh gotcha ok, it’s been clear to slightly hazy. I start with adding the a gallon of chlorine tonight and measure tomorrow and keep adding it till it sticks. Fyi(added 3 lbs of stabilizer yesterday)
