Hi Friends,

All summer my pool has been great.

FC between 5 and 10, Salt between 2800 and 3000, equipment happily humming. OCLT showing zero loss.

CYA however is hovering between 30 and 40, and I never actually increased it beyond that level this year.

I believe it should be up around 60 or 70, and I would gladly raise it, but do I need to? I think a drawback of low CYA is that the SWCG must work that much harder to keep FC in the pool. If I add CYA, then perhaps I can back off on the SWCG?

I run the pump about 12h each day and the SWCG is set around 50%.

Thanks for any advice you all can give.

Need to? No. Lower CYA just means your cell has to work harder. Raising CYA extends the life of the cell.

If I add CYA, then perhaps I can back off on the SWCG?
Yes. I'd raise it to 60 or 70, raise it in 10 increments, test again after 48 hours before you do the next 10.
