Lost pressure (1 to 2 psi). Pump seems to be running fine. O-ring failure issue somewhere? Call professional or tackle? Mechanically inclined

Disassembled and reassembled filter. About 0.25 inches of dirty/muddy accumulation at base of filter. Seal failure?

Appreciate the help!!

Shaw,

I'm not really sure what your questions is...

I suspect the dirt/mud is from the dirt that often gets into a lot of AZ pools...

Having 1 or 2 lbs. of filter pressure may, or may not be ok, it depends on your pump speed.

Does the water flowing out of a pool return feel strong or weak?

I can't think of any 'seals' that would cause any of this???

Tell us more...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Did the filter pressure drop 1-2 psi after you cleaned the filter? That's normal - and sometimes the pressure will drop every more if the filter was extra dirty.

Filter psi is 8 to 10 post cleaning. It has been fine since last filter cleaning (5 weeks ago). It suddenly dropped to a reading of 1 to 2 psi yesterday morning. Catch baskets clean. No visible blockage.

Return is also weak.

Return is also weak.
And this is compared to the same RPM you ran the pump prior to cleaning the filter?
If so, you may want to open op the filter and check to see if it's put back together properly.
If the pressure in the filter dropped and the return flow to the pool is weak - all other things being equal - there may be a restriction between the pump and the filter.

Filter assembled correctly. When bled valve, air released until water released, but at a much lower flow from the release valve on top of filter.

If there is a restriction (blockage?), how do I clear the line? Snake it or get a professional?

THANKS!!

Shaw,

The first thing to check is to ensure that there is nothing clogging the impeller area of the pump. The impeller could actually be broken.

With the power off, of course, you can stick your finger in the impeller area and try to rotate the impeller and make sure it is not clogged and rotates with the shaft.

Show us a couple of pics of your equipment pad and maybe someone here can spot something or come up with other things to look for.

Thanks,

Jim R.

First is to see if you can locate the issue.

From the info you provided, it seems the first places to look are the pump impeller, between the pump and filter, on the inlet to the filter or inside the filter housing itself.
Water flows from the pump into the filter (pressure gauge on filter reads here), then thru the cartridges, out the outlet and back to the pool.

Post a few pics of your equipment pad from a few different angles. Maybe we will see something there that may help.
