Lost flow after cleaning filter

Concrete in ground pool: Jandy 1.5 HP variable speed pump: 60 sq. ft. Jandy DE filter. Just cleaned filter. Upon restarting pump, pool flow is very low. Pump is not drawing water from pool strongly. Filter basket is only half full of water. Opened two valves and cannot see any blockage. Tested flow by alternating from skimmer basket and vacuum line. No change. Operating pump on manual only. Pump sounds okay. Filter pressure is 14. Have not replaced DE yet before I figure out the problem. Any suggestions on where to look for a blockage, leak or pump not operating correctly.

John,

Did you breakdown and clean your DE filter, or did you just backwash it?

A filter pressure of 14 with clean grids, and no DE, would be much higher than I would suspect.

If you have a multiport valve on the filter, I would put it in "recirculate" or "waste" and see if the pump starts working ok. If so, then the problem is inside the filter or return lines.

I can't be sure, but I suspect the problem is not in your suction side plumbing.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Took the filter apart and cleaned the grids. No multipart valve. Just the one I pull up to backwash. Checked skimmer for blockages. Opened two valves, no blockages. Have a repair man coming Wednesday, and running pump at 2000 rpm for 6 hours just to keep water circulating a little bit. I know running filter without the DE can cause damage, but I hate to let the water sit for days without any circulation.
