Good morning

I am having a little issue where my return line is losing pressure

i have an 18’ round semi in ground pool

hayward 1hp pump and cartridge filter

the pressure gauge stays around 20psi

when i first noticed it happen
i removed the cartridge filter
cleaned it with just a hose
re installed it and all was good
return pressure restored

but about a day later the same thing happened
return pressure was weak
pressure gauge stayed the same at 20psi

yesterday i removed the cartridge
cleaned it with a filter cleaner and a hose
and reinstalled it
everything was good for about 6-7hrs
and than i noticed the return felt weak again
pressure gauge still at 20psi

should i be doing something else here for cleaning the filter ?

i also checked my pump impeller
and cleaned out any debris in the skimmer and the cartridge area etc

all of my pool equipment is about 4 weeks old

any help or suggestions are appreciated

You are describing a heavy organic load - algae. Can you post a full set of test results? I would use your TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit to perform an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.
the water has only been in the pool for about 4 weeks
and its crystal clear

i tested it last week and it was all in the normal ranges on the test strip

but i can test it again if you think i should

Re-testing would be ideal, but only if it's with a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit. Test strips are simply horrible and won't give you an accurate result. That could be a big part of the problem.

i was always under the impression that algae caused cloudy water or green water
Many times that is the obvious end result. However water can also be saturated with organics that are transparent and not otherwise visible. It clogs the filter until the owner backwashes or rinses the filter which improves water flow for a short time only to slow down again quickly.
