Losing 6ppm of chlorine a day....

But my OCLT is .6 to .8.

It finally got hot here. Like HOT. And my pool is in direct FULL sun from 10AM until dang near sunset.
First couple weeks of the season I was going through 3.5-4 ppm of chlorine a day.
The last week or so I bring it up to 8 in the evening. (55-60 CYA). Next morning it's at 7.5'ish. CC 0.
By the time I get home at night (6-6:30) it's at 2 or less!

Ph 7.4.
TA 70
water CRYSTAL clear.
Water temp 94! Solar panels off. Like I said. It's hot!

even with only a 10,000 gallon pool I'm putting in over a half gallon of 10% a DAY.
starting to get expensive.

Is this normal!?

taylor k2006 kit. Numbers are right.

I drained 7000 of 10000 gallons 3 weeks ago to get cya down. I've tested is about 4 times since then. 99.9% I'm in the range I stated

One more thing.
I brought FC up to 21 this morning.
Came home to 5.8
just now took it to 25. Will check it again in the Am

That sounds like a pretty excessive daily loss given a CYA of 60ppm and no OCLT.

Perhaps tonight's OCLT will be different.

FYI, if you run your solar panels at night it will cool your pool

Morning test FC 23.8

now.... that's 119 drops in the test tube.
the reason I say that is because even though I lost 1.2 between last nights test and this morning....
one of those two tests could be minutely off due to the sheer amount of drops and counting.
You should switch to the 10ml sample/0.5ppm resolution, it will save on reagents, make drop counting easier, and is accurate enough.

I see you raised the FC to shock level, are you starting a SLAM?

Re-do your OCLT with the 10ml sample, and do your best to get an accurate drop count.

Not sure if this is true so someone please correct me if I am wrong. If your FC is way above the target range for you CYA levels, wouldn't you loose that "excess" FC at a faster rate? That may explain why your are losing so much FC.

TFP Expert Richard320 has a great chart showing the degradation of chlorine in a pool based on FC level, CYA, etc.

PM him - I am sure he will send it to you.

Take care.

At night the loss sould be minimal. In the sun, the higher the FC above CYA target, the more ppm you will lose to the sun.
