We just bought this home about 2 months ago and finally started addressing the pool this weekend.

Neither hubby nor I know a thing about pools so we are learning as we go. Right now we have a swamp and I'm awaiting our test kit before I really start trying to get the water clean. Have been raking & brushing daily.
I have no idea how old the current equipment is, but it does run.

The pump is a Hayward 1.5HP super pump
The filter is a Jaccuzi MFM17 sand filter
Many leaks on the filter! Coming out pretty much from all of the pipes connected to it and the valve ontop. It looks like they tried a lot of different things to stop the leaking and never succeeded. I just want to replace this.
The pump seems fine, but I am highly interested in changing to a 2 speed or VS pump. Am not sure what would be best for our area/pool.

I think all the piping on the equipment needs to be changed. Does this come with the pump/filter or do I need to get that with this stuff?
We'd be installing ourselves with the help of someone that knows how to do it all.

Pool is about 32x17.5, 8.5 on the deep end and 3.5 on the shallow end. About 25,000 (if the calculators are right and I measured right!) gallons. There are no water features. I only have 1 skimmer. No heating. It doesn't have lights, if that matters. (any recommendations for that? battery operated lights safe to be submerged?)

I am in central arkansas and really am not sure how long pool season is here. The water is still quite cold in my pool, so I would assume it would not be all year.

According to EIA - Electricity Data our energy cost is pretty low at 9.32?
Our energy company has a rebate of $300 for a VS pump and $150 for a 2-speed pump.
I am unsure of what type of voltage the equipment pad has running to it.

Smart phone features would be nice if it's not outrageous but not required at all. I'd like this all to cost as little as possible while still being great, long lasting equipment.
Do certain pumps/filters play nicer together?

edit: i guess i should include that it’d be great if all totaled we could stay around $1,200 after rebate.

You need to use schedule 40 pvc pipe and fittings that can handle pressurized systems. It does not come with the pump and filter.

Your pump is probably 240V but you should look at the electrical panel to see what you have and if it needs an upgrade.

Smartphone features only come if you install a pool automation system. There are not pool pumps with built in smart phone control. Some folks have DIY controls using home automation stuff with WIFI switches and relays.

The VS pump we often recommend - Pentair Intelliflo 011018 - costs around $850. For your simple setup a 2 speed pump would do as well.

Any pump can work with any filter. When you get into pool automation the pump and salt water generator and maybe LED lights work best when from the same vendor.

Great equipment, long lasting, inexpensive- pick two. :)

Okay. I highly doubt we will ever automate, so that's out!

I called a few pool places around here and they really don't carry much. Just some hayward single speed pumps and one choice of filter that was $700. Small town..

How do these two items look?
Amazon.com : Pentair 342001 SuperFlo VS Variable Speed Pool Pump, 1 1/2 Horsepower, 115/208-230 Volt, 1 Phase - Energy Star Certified : Garden & Outdoor
Pentair 342001 SuperFlo VS

Amazon.com : Hayward S244T ProSeries Sand Filter, 24-Inch, Top-Mount : Swimming Pool Sand Filters : Garden & Outdoor
Hayward S244T ProSeries Sand Filter, 24-Inch

Those will work.
I would suggest you call InyoPools and talk to them. They have an in-house line of VS pumps that are good quality and can also work with you on your filter needs. The warranty DIY installs. Some of their VS pumps have built in wifi controls.

Realize that Pentair requires a professional installation for anything more than a 60 day warranty.
