Looking for thread about filling sand filter for first time

Thought I had saved but now I cannot locate a thread about washing or sifting the sand for possible debris prior to filling filter and we are at that point today of filling pool. Searched and looked through Pool School and just can't find. If anyone can point me in the direction it would be greatly appreciated as it seems like a good idea.

Not sure what thread you are referring to, but I would think you just put sand in a bucket and run water through it while stirring it up with you hand ... basically the deep cleaning of the sand before putting it in the filter.

Although I am not sure I have heard of many people doing this. Usually just put the sand in and then run on Backwash a bit and then on Rinse for a bit and then switch to filter.

Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

Couldn't you put the sand in, then run the hose like you are doing a deep cleaning?

Agreed...I found a 'pre-wash' was not needed if you have decent pool sand and backwash/rinse thoroughly. Much less work.
