I’m in a similar situation: looking for energy efficient motor to decrease sky high utility bills. Cleveland area. Moved into house with 28’ round fiberglass above ground, 1 skimmer, 1 outlet, 5 ft deep. Plumbing 1.5. Motor is over 10 years old: Sta-Rite Motor # C48M2A24BTI have a 5000 gallon traditional AGP with no bells and whistles (one skimmer, one return, not even a chlorine feeder). The pump that came with the pool (which came with the house) is an old Hayward Power Flo LX 1.5hp pump. According to the label, it pumps 70gpm and uses 12a/115v. The filter is a Hayward 100lb, 1.4ft^2 sand filter with a 35gpm design flow rate. 1.5” fittings and about 18’ of flexible hose total.
I pay $.17/kWh, run this ~1.4kW pump 12 hours per day, so over a five month season pay about $425 in electricity.
Would it be worth the cost savings over 2-3 years to switch to a VS pump, and if so, how do I go about sizing and selecting one? I’ve tried to do some research but find myself confused by both Hayward and Pentair’s product lines. Any specific suggestions please? Many thanks.
Pump Model JWPS5YG7L-A

?450/1725 RPM S.F. 1.0

I have a Pentair cartridge filter, S5YG7L - A1, JR 3PL2SP HD, Pentair P/N 178555 REV E. Model 200. Eff Filt Area (sqft) 200; Design Flow Rate (gpm) 150; Max Working Pressure (psi) 50; Pressure Drop at Design Flow Rate (psi) 8; Clear to Remove Top (in.) 68;

NYO Pool Recommendation for replacement is
Century 1.5 HP Thru-Bolt 48Y Dual Speed Motor - BN50V1
Thrubolt pump mount, "1081" design, 60 HZ , 115V, H.P = 1.5 High Speed / .188 Low Speed, Full load Amps = 13.5 High speed / 4.7 Low Speed, Frame 48Y.
It was recommended and I want to purchase Hayward W3SP2603VSP Super Pump VS , 1.65 HP. It’s for in-ground pool. I would need to convert it. Looking for alternatives. Thanks
