Ok so I guess my CYA numbers are high. The only solution is to drain/replace water. Is it ok to drain to a retention pond located near my pool or should it be to the street sewer drain? Don’t want to impact the flora/fauna/fish in the pond. Also I’ve been reading about the horror stories of “popping pools” from the hydrostatic pressure and it scares me! Also been reading about swapping the water by draining and filling at the same time. Also is the disadvantage of high CYA just having to use much more liquid chlorine or are there other factors? Thanks again for any input.

You should drain to street sewer. You should also check your local codes for discharge of pool water regulations.

Read the "No drain water exchange section" here:

With very high levels of CYA >90, it is not possible to add enough chlorine to sanitize the water.

I’ve been doing the test trying to refine my results. I’ve tried doing the method where you mix tap water in the sample and then add the reagent and double the results. The average CYA that I come up with is about 120 so I’m thinking that exchanging the pool water is my only option.

OK. 120 needs draining / exchanging. 75 may have already come down to 60 with the spring rains and that would have been entirely manageable
