We have a 40-year-old inground pool with vinyl liner and sand-bottom. The liner needs to be replaced, but we are having a hard time finding a pool company willing to take on the replacement of a sand-bottom pool. Has anyone run into this problem? What would be our other options?

Basically it's very similar to an above ground pool with a sand bottom. You may trying someone who does both types of pools. I have the same type pool and the liner that was in the pool when I first bought the pool 22yrs ago was perfect. When I replaced the liner 13 years ago, they didn't do near as good leaving pull marks and some light foot prints. The next one I plan to do it myself with the help of someone that works with a pool company during the summer. That may be something to look at too.

Not directly answering your question but you may want to ask for quotes to replace the sand bottom with concrete. If you like your pool and use it a lot maybe it is worth the investment but it is likely to triple your renovation cost.
These days pool company have the luxury to chose their customer maybe this will settle a bit soon at the speed the availability of cheap borrow money is decreasing.

Kind of surprised you are having a challenge finding someone to do a liner replacement with a sand bottom. What are the reasons they are giving for not wanting to do it?
