Hi,

The old liner was ripped out today, and the contractor said there is no major damage, but it looks to be in bad shape, so I wanted to get your thoughts. Attaching photos. Are there things that you recommended that I should get done before liner goes in?PXL_20250527_215304517.jpg

How thin are the rusted areas?

I would paint the rusted walls with a rust neutralizer.

Mine looked similar, mainly surface rust, but the metal was still solid. If there are areas where the metal is thin or rusted away a patch panel can be affixed over it. In the rusty areas, I used a wire brush on an angle grinder and painted on a zinc paint (ZRC Cold Galvanizing High Zinc Compound).

Not sure if a rust converter is going to do much, not sure how much it penetrates. My hope was the zinc paint would slow the rusting and could be redone the next time the liner is replaced.

I also replaced my light niche and skimmers, the back side of the panels looked a lot worse, solid rust. Then I crossed my fingers, said a payer and had a new liner installed.

Not sure when my pool was built, but it could have been the 70's since i found the remains of thin walled green pvc like pipes along with black poly and flexible PVC.
